Snakes begin to reappear in Ibiza as cyclist finds metre-long specimen

Snakes are once again being spotted in Ibiza as temperatures rise and sunny weather returns.

A cyclist travelling early on Tuesday morning along the Can Germà road, in Sant Antoni de Portmany, came across a horseshoe whip snake measuring just over one metre in length.

The reptile was lying on the tarmac and, at first glance, “appeared to be alive”, according to the local resident who found it. However, on closer inspection, he realised it was dead.

The witness believes the snake may have been run over shortly beforehand, possibly while basking on the warm road surface — a common behaviour among reptiles after the colder winter months.
